From a single piece of furniture to a complete kitchen overhaul. We do custom work across eight categories, and we bring the same material standards to every one of them.
A custom kitchen cabinet job is the most involved work we do, and the most satisfying to finish. We design every cabinet run to your exact wall dimensions, account for plumbing and appliance locations, and give you options at every decision point: door style, wood species, hardware, interior configuration.
We build face-frame or frameless cabinets depending on your preference. Face-frame construction is the traditional American style, with a solid wood frame on the cabinet front. Frameless, or European-style, gives you slightly more interior space and a cleaner, more contemporary look.
All drawer boxes are solid dovetailed maple. Drawer slides are Blum Tandembox or equivalent soft-close undermount hardware. Door hinges are Blum Clip Top with built-in soft-close. We do not use cheaper alternatives.
Cabinet interiors are prefinished maple plywood. Shelves are adjustable with solid wood edge banding. Island cabinets include reinforced bases and stretchers for stone countertop support. We coordinate with your countertop fabricator directly.
Floor-to-ceiling built-ins are one of the most dramatic improvements you can make to a room. Done right, they look like they were always part of the house. Done wrong, they look like furniture pushed against a wall. We build built-ins that are genuinely integrated, with cove molding transitions, scribed edges, and base details that match the existing trim.
We can add library ladder tracks, integrated LED strip lighting channels, cabinet sections below, and adjustable or fixed shelving in any configuration. Floating shelf systems are also available where structural anchoring allows.
For home offices, we typically combine open shelving with closed lower cabinets, integrated cable management, and sometimes a custom desktop surface. We've built everything from single-wall office systems to full U-shape wraparound configurations.
Bathroom vanities take more punishment than almost any other piece of furniture in the house. Steam, standing water, humidity swings, daily use. We build vanities with this in mind: sealed cabinet interiors, waterproof finishing, and hardware selected specifically for moisture resistance.
We offer wall-mounted floating vanities, traditional toe-kick bases, and furniture-style legs. Double sink configurations are a specialty. We've built vanities from 24 inches wide to 96 inches wide for master bath double configurations.
We coordinate with your plumber and countertop fabricator. If you need a vessel sink or undermount, we'll cut the proper openings and leave clean templates for your stone installer. We also build medicine cabinets, linen tower add-ons, and matching mirror frames on request.
Custom entertainment centers are one of the best ways to bring coherence to a living room. A wall-to-wall media unit hides the clutter of modern electronics, provides genuine storage, and makes the TV feel intentional rather than like an appliance dropped in the corner.
We design around your actual equipment list: TV size and mount type, gaming consoles, streaming boxes, receiver, speakers, turntable. Every piece of gear gets a planned space with proper cable access and ventilation. No more tangled cords behind the screen.
Options include smoked or clear glass cabinet fronts, integrated LED accent lighting, pull-out drawers for remotes and accessories, and display shelving for books, art, or collections. We can build center-only units, full wall systems, or configurations with flanking column towers.
A fireplace mantel is the focal point of the room. It sets the architectural tone for everything around it. We've built mantels in styles ranging from simple shaker legs and a flat shelf to full-height coffered overmantel surrounds with pilasters, dentil molding, and carved details.
We work from photos, drawings, or historical references you bring us. For period homes, we can match existing architectural millwork exactly. For contemporary homes, we design clean-lined surrounds that frame the firebox without competing with it.
Flanking built-in cabinets are a popular addition. They create a symmetrical composition and add useful storage. Reclaimed wood mantels are available for clients who want the character of old-growth material. We source from local salvage yards and can work with client-supplied reclaimed wood.
Mudrooms and closets are pure function. They have to handle the actual daily behavior of your household, whether that's two adults and a weekend bag or four kids, two dogs, two sets of sports equipment, and everyone's winter coats. We design around reality.
A good mudroom system includes cubbies sized for your family members, hooks at appropriate heights, a bench for sitting to put on shoes, and enclosed storage below the bench. We often add a cabinet run above the cubby section for seasonal items and sports gear.
For walk-in closets, we build custom hanging sections, drawer units, shoe shelves, and accessory drawers in any configuration. Island dressers are available for larger closets. We design the layout based on an inventory of your actual wardrobe and storage needs.
When you can't find the piece you want at any price, we build it. Custom furniture at Graincraft runs from simple solid-wood dining tables to complex heirloom-quality case pieces with hand-cut joinery throughout.
Our most common furniture commissions are dining tables, home office desks, bed frames, coffee tables, and side tables. We also get requests for more unusual pieces: a partner's desk for two, a window seat with storage, a custom dog crate that looks like furniture, built-in banquette seating with storage drawers below.
Furniture joinery methods depend on the piece. Tables typically use mortise-and-tenon leg joinery. Case pieces use dovetails on corner joints and dadoes for shelves. We use traditional methods because they produce the strongest, longest-lasting results. Modern fasteners are structural supplements, not replacements for good joinery.
Outdoor cabinetry requires a fundamentally different material selection than interior work. We use teak, ipe, or marine-grade teak plywood for outdoor kitchen builds. These species are naturally resistant to moisture, rot, and insect damage without chemical treatment.
All hardware is 316 marine-grade stainless steel. Hinges, drawer slides, and pulls are rated for outdoor use. Cabinet interiors are finished with two-part epoxy for full moisture resistance. We design around your specific grill, smoker, refrigerator, and sink rough-ins.
Outdoor kitchens are only offered for fully covered, roofed structures. We do not build cabinetry for exposed decks without overhead coverage. The longevity of the work depends on protection from direct rainfall. We're happy to discuss your specific site at the consultation stage.
Describe your project and we'll help you figure out the right scope, timeline, and budget. No commitment required.
