Answers to the questions we hear most from prospective families.
Enrollment begins with a tour of our facility, which you can schedule by calling us or submitting the form above. During the tour, you will meet the teachers in your child's age group and see the classrooms in action. If you decide Little Explorers is the right fit, we will provide enrollment paperwork that includes your child's health records, immunization history, emergency contacts, and a family information questionnaire. Once the paperwork and a one-time registration fee are submitted, we will work with you to choose a start date and plan a smooth transition.
For the health and safety of all children and staff, we ask that children stay home if they have a fever of 100.4 or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, an undiagnosed rash, or any other contagious symptoms. Children must be symptom-free for a full 24 hours without the aid of medication before returning. If a child becomes ill during the day, we will contact parents or emergency contacts immediately for pickup. We follow all Illinois DCFS guidelines for illness exclusion and reporting.
Each child should bring a complete change of clothes (seasonally appropriate), a water bottle, and any comfort items they may need such as a blanket or stuffed animal for nap time. Infants will need a supply of bottles, formula or breast milk, and diapers. For toddlers still in diapers, please provide a daily supply of diapers and wipes. All items should be clearly labeled with your child's name. We provide all meals, snacks, sunscreen, and nap cots or cribs.
Absolutely. We take allergies and dietary needs very seriously. During enrollment, we collect detailed information about any allergies or dietary restrictions your child has. Our kitchen staff prepares meals with these needs in mind, and allergy action plans are posted in every classroom. We are a nut-aware facility and can accommodate most common dietary restrictions including vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free, and cultural or religious dietary practices. If your child has a severe allergy requiring an EpiPen, all classroom staff will be trained on its use.
Little Explorers is closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. We also close for two staff professional development days each year, which are announced at the start of the school year. A complete holiday calendar is provided to all enrolled families in August and January.
Some of our programs, particularly the Infant Care room, do occasionally reach full enrollment. When this happens, we maintain a waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no fee to join the waitlist. We will contact you as soon as a spot opens up, and you will have 48 hours to confirm your interest. We recommend scheduling a tour and starting the enrollment process as early as possible, even during pregnancy for infant care, to secure your preferred start date.
The best way to get to know Little Explorers is to come see us in person. We would love to show you around and answer all your questions.
