Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions I hear most often. If yours is not here, just ask.

Yes. I am in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Horizon BCBS of NJ, and Oxford. If your plan is not listed, I provide detailed superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients get 60-80% of session costs reimbursed this way. I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking about coverage for outpatient nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian. I am happy to help you navigate this process.
Both. About half of my clients come to the Maplewood office and the other half meet with me virtually via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Virtual sessions are just as effective as in-person visits, and many clients prefer the convenience of not having to commute. All you need is a device with a camera and a quiet space. I see virtual clients across New Jersey and can provide telehealth services in several other states as well.
Your initial assessment is 75 minutes long, and it is more of a conversation than an exam. We will talk about your health history, current eating patterns, food preferences, lifestyle, goals, and what you have tried in the past. I will ask about stress, sleep, digestion, energy levels, and anything else that might be affecting how you feel. You do not need to prepare anything specific, though bringing recent lab work is helpful if you have it. By the end of the session, you will have a clear understanding of where we are headed and the first steps of your personalized plan.
That depends on your needs and goals. Most clients start with biweekly sessions for the first month or two while we are building and refining your plan, then transition to monthly sessions as you build confidence and momentum. Some clients with more complex needs (like managing multiple food intolerances or recovering from disordered eating) benefit from weekly sessions initially. We will figure out the right cadence together, and you can always adjust as things change.
No. I do not subscribe to any single diet philosophy and I will never hand you a rigid meal plan that tells you exactly what to eat at exactly what time. What I do is provide evidence-based nutrition recommendations tailored to your body, your health conditions, your preferences, and your life. Sometimes that means we work through a structured elimination protocol for IBS. Sometimes it means building more balanced meals. Sometimes it means unlearning diet rules that are not serving you. The approach is always personalized and always flexible.
I ask for 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Life happens and I completely understand that things come up. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice are subject to a $50 late cancellation fee. No-shows are charged the full session rate. If you are running late, just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you. The policy exists to respect both of our time and to keep slots available for other clients who need them.
