BlackTop Pro Paving has been laying asphalt across metro Detroit since 1999. We're not the biggest company in Michigan. We're the one that shows up and does the work right.
Ray Kowalski started his paving career in 1999 as a crew laborer in Detroit, shoveling hot mix and learning the trade from experienced pavers who didn't take shortcuts. He worked every position on the paving chain — rake man, roller operator, foreman — before striking out on his own in 2007.
BlackTop Pro started as a one-truck operation. Within three years, Ray had three trucks and a reputation for showing up on time and doing the work as quoted. By 2015, the fleet was at six trucks. Today it's eight, with full crew capacity for commercial lots and subdivision paving.
Ray still pulls site visits personally. He still reviews every quote. He still gets calls from property managers who found his number in a drawer from ten years ago because they want the same guy who did their lot the first time.
"I got into this business because I liked the work. You lay a parking lot and you know it's solid. You can stand on it. You drive over it every day and it holds up. That's satisfying in a way that most jobs aren't. The surface tells the truth."
An 8-truck fleet means we can tackle commercial-scale projects without delays. We own our equipment — no rental markup, no scheduling around someone else's availability.
2 Caterpillar AP600 pavers for smooth, consistent mat placement on large commercial projects.
4 tri-axle trucks for material hauling and debris removal. Enough tonnage to keep pavers moving.
2 Bomag double-drum vibratory rollers ensuring proper compaction depth on every lift.
Wirtgen W 100 cold planer for asphalt milling and surface preparation before overlays.
Commercial-grade spray system for even, professional sealcoat application. No broom-dragging.
Self-propelled striping unit with laser guidance for perfectly straight parking lot lines.
Every crew member is a direct BlackTop Pro employee. We don't use temp labor or day workers on client jobs.
We're set up to handle both. The approach is different. The standard isn't.
Property managers, HOAs, retail centers, warehouses, municipalities, and apartment complexes. We handle large-scale projects with proper scheduling, permitting, and minimal disruption to tenants and operations. Annual maintenance contracts available.
Homeowners who want their driveway done right, not done cheap. We show up on time, complete the work cleanly, and stand behind it. Ray handles every residential consultation personally — no sales reps.
High-load industrial lots require different base specifications than standard parking lots. We understand the difference and build accordingly. Forklift and semi-truck traffic need deeper base courses and heavier mix designs.
We serve Detroit and the surrounding metro counties: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Livingston. For large commercial projects, we'll travel further. Call and ask.
We quote the job, we do the job at that price. Change orders happen when scope changes. Not because we underbid to win the work.
We show up when we say we will. We finish when we said we would. Weather delays happen. We communicate them. We don't go quiet.
We use commercial-grade asphalt mix from Michigan's top suppliers. We don't spec down to save margin. The surface you get is the surface that was quoted.
Ray's number goes on every contract. Call it. He picks up. No answering service, no dispatch queue, no "someone will get back to you."
We don't leave debris, tack oil stains, or equipment on your property overnight. When we're done for the day, the site is secured and clean.
New asphalt work carries a two-year workmanship warranty. If something goes wrong that's on us, we fix it. That's what standing behind your work means.
Based in Detroit, we cover the full metro area and surrounding counties.
